Ashburn Rainbow Assembly Installation
by Lizzie S., Past Worthy Advisor for Ashburn Assembly

On February 1st, Samantha S. was installed as Worthy Advisor for the Ashburn Rainbow Assembly #11. Sam embraced her theme, Peter Pan, by requesting the Masons to come as pirates, the Rainbow and Jobie girls to come as fairies or mermaids and the DeMolay to come as lost boys. In addition to Sam, Lorkin K. was installed as Worthy Associate Advisor and several other members were installed into various positions.

Sam’s theme for her term was “all you need is faith, trust and a little bit of pixie dust”. Her charity for this term will be Gives Kids the World Village (www.gk2w.org). Events she has planned for her term includes a steak dinner on March 21st, movie nights, Flower Festival with bake sale, participating in the Leesburg Rescue Squad Open House, and a Lavender wand making fundraiser in addition to many other activities. We congratulate Sam and look forward to a great term!

Rainbow’s Effect

Lorkin’s haiku is on how being a part of Rainbow has effected her.

The Rainbow I Feel

The colors aglow

And brighten as I seep through

Now surrounds my heart

Do not plan things last

Rainbow Retreat

Leela S., active member of Ashburn Assembly of Rainbow for Girls

In late October, Virginia Rainbow had its annual retreat at Camp Overlook in Keezletown. The retreat drew girls from across the state including several of us from the Ashburn Assembly. It was a fun weekend of sisterhood and friendship. There were also lots of great activities for the girls to enjoy. I most enjoyed the paint wars, which had the girls in teams. Each team had to dip the letters for our team name in paint and stamp it on our backs—it was messy but fun! Another activity that I think we all enjoyed was mason jar painting.  I also loved eating s’mores and hanging out around the fireplace and chatting with friends. One of the girls also hosted a haunted trailer tour that was very exciting.

There was also a Wizard of Oz themed baking competition. Each team had to bake and decorate a cake.  We also got to watch the movie Moana with our Rainbow sisters. The best part of the weekend was how kind everyone was to each other. It was a wonderful experience. I know I’m going back next time!
