I keep hearing, “What is that Rainbow thing you post about?” so I suppose it’s about time to do one of my periodic public service announcements
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (IORG, or Rainbow) is a Masonic (i.e. Freemasons) youth service organization for girls between the ages of 11-20. It is founded upon the principle of using the Rainbow- a celestial symbol of hope- and its colors to teach key principles to girls as they grow from girlhood to adulthood. The seven colors (ROYGBIV) represent, in order, Love, Religion, Nature, Immortality, Fidelity, Patriotism, and Service. It is run by girls, for girls, and teaches not only life lessons but life skills- public speaking, leadership, planning, organization, poise, and more. I am a proud Rainbow alumnus and work closely with the lovely Rainbow Girls at Richmond Assembly (and across the State!) so they can benefit from Rainbow’s teachings just as I did as a Girl. Our slogan is, “Rainbow Gets Girls Ready For Life!” and every word of it is true.
