Rainbow Retreat from Manassas

Posted in Blog on March 29th, 2022 by Christi Reed

On October 1st – 3rd we had our Rainbow retreat. I had a GREAT time, all the way from the car ride there to the moment we left.  We started out by jammin’ out to some 80’s and Disney music with our car full of people and enjoyed the ride down to Camp Overlook in Keezletown.  When we got there, we had a great time interacting and reuniting with friends! Then we set up all of our stuff and went to watch Cinderella!

The second day, we had an eventful day of games, decorating, and fun challenges! Each one taught us an important lesson. We were all on different teams (Pumpkin, Gus Gus, Jaq, Glass Slipper) we decorated our team signs then we went on to do small challenges and learn lessons along with them. After all of the stations, we ate lunch and went out to play sports and games.  We played volleyball, kickball, an egg spoon race, and more! My personal favorite was kickball, it was a lot of fun! After our very eventful day, we ended the night by eating s’mores and singing songs by then campfire.  And then the next day we all said goodbye to our friends and headed home.

I can’t wait to find out what’s in store for next year’s retreat!

Rainbow Retreat- 10/1-3/2021

On October 1st, 2021, Rainbow Girls from all around the state arrived at Camp Overlook for our annual Rainbow Retreat! Retreat really is one of my favorite events of the whole year because of how casual and fun it always is. We were lucky enough to be joined by our new friend Maddie from North Carolina, who is the Grand Representative to Virginia in her state. I even met her mom, who was a Quantico girl in the original Assembly, which was cool to hear about! Friday night started off with a movie, where we watched Cinderella and ate Dad Joe brownies and popcorn. Saturday started off bright and early for breakfast, followed by team assignments. The girls attending were split into 4 teams, called Gus Gus, Jaq, Pumpkin, and Glass Slipper, where they competed in field games, mascot presentations, and participated in presentations by Grand Officers. This year, as Grand Nature, I had the opportunity to give a presentation on the importance of Friendship, which we did by meeting a new friend and writing something about them on a card, which I assembled into a “Rainbow of Friendship” which will be displayed at Grand Assembly 2022! There were also presentations on Courage, Kindness, and the Title-less Leader. After the presentations were done, we had lunch and headed out for field day. Each team competed against the other teams in games of kickball and volleyball. I joined team Gus Gus for the games, and I found out that I am very bad at volleyball! After field day we had dinner, before going up the hill for the best part of Retreat, s’mores! It was a long day, and after a night of rest we woke up for breakfast and the devotional, which was a great way to end a fantastic weekend!

Rainbow Retreat

On the weekend of October 25-27, we went to Keezletown for Rainbow Retreat. On Friday night, there was a movie night and games. First on Saturday morning, we painted jars to make them wizard of oz characters. Then, there were paint wars, which included a stamp relay to see which team could stamp their team name in paint on the members’ tshirts the fastest, capture the flag with water squirters filled with paint, and a trust fall exercise where everyone had paint on their hands to hold the person in the middle up. Later in the afternoon, there was a bake off where each team had to make a wizard of oz themed cake. That night, awards were given out for the competitions. The next morning, there was a church service and then we all went our separate ways home. A great time was had by all with many memories made.

Rainbow Retreat

Leela S., active member of Ashburn Assembly of Rainbow for Girls

In late October, Virginia Rainbow had its annual retreat at Camp Overlook in Keezletown. The retreat drew girls from across the state including several of us from the Ashburn Assembly. It was a fun weekend of sisterhood and friendship. There were also lots of great activities for the girls to enjoy. I most enjoyed the paint wars, which had the girls in teams. Each team had to dip the letters for our team name in paint and stamp it on our backs—it was messy but fun! Another activity that I think we all enjoyed was mason jar painting.  I also loved eating s’mores and hanging out around the fireplace and chatting with friends. One of the girls also hosted a haunted trailer tour that was very exciting.

There was also a Wizard of Oz themed baking competition. Each team had to bake and decorate a cake.  We also got to watch the movie Moana with our Rainbow sisters. The best part of the weekend was how kind everyone was to each other. It was a wonderful experience. I know I’m going back next time!
