Program for Sandston Lodge

Posted in Blog on July 22nd, 2016 by Casey Humphries

On June 16th, we were invited to give a program to the Masons of Sandston Lodge.  It was very fun and my friend came with us.  We also got some older girls interested in Rainbow.  First, we joined them for dinner and then we did our program, which is based on Charity’s Pot of Gold lecture.  When we went in and did the Pot of Gold program, everyone seemed so interested and it was really fun.  They were very nice and I would definitely like to go back and visit Sandston Lodge again.

The Child ID event on July 9th at the Hanover Tomato Festival with the Masons of Washington & Henry Lodge was a great success.  We’re very grateful to have been invited to such an important event and we were eager as well as happy to help alongside the Masons.  The kids there were especially nice and overall we helped 89 of them receive ID disks.  It was an amazing event and I’m sure the rest of Richmond Assembly will agree with me when I say that we look forward to working with the Masons of Washington & Henry Lodge in the future.

Reaching Out to Our Masonic Lodges

Posted in Blog on May 13th, 2016 by Casey Humphries

As a Majority Member from California, I was so excited to watch California’s Grand Assembly live stream online, but afterwards I saw a number of comments in the California Alumni Facebook page about how there are fewer girls than there were in the 90’s.  They asked, what could be done to get more girls to join Rainbow?

I started thinking, now being part of Virginia Rainbow, a relatively small- but growing- Rainbow state, what we could do to help increase our numbers.  What was lacking?  Then it hit me- I have an IORG magnet on the back of my truck, and many times, Masons mention to me that they didn’t know about us, or that we were here in Virginia.  We have a very strong relationship with certain Lodges, but outside of that, many Masons do not know we are here.

So I coordinated with my Advisory Board Chairman, who is also a Majority girl, and we decided to sit down and write a letter to all the Masonic Lodges in our area letting them know that we are, in fact, here and always ready to help.  We offered to give programs and assist them through a variety of service projects.  We reached out as part of our GWA’s mission to support our Masonic Sponsoring Bodies and also our own Assembly’s 25th anniversary.  The Richmond girls approved the letter and signed them before we mailed them out.

I am so excited to say that it worked!! Since sending the letters, we have added 3 Lodge programs to our calendar, and it’s only the beginning.  Hopefully our exposure will lead to new girls, but if nothing else, it will lead to new and strengthened relationships with our Masonic Family.

Richmond #10 Welcomes New Sisters

I got to experience my first initiation other than my own and it was amazing!  I helped initiate not one, but two girls!!  It was fun to get to know Amber and Rhianna better and to see their smiles when they got initiated.  Rhianna especially was really excited because she wanted to be in Rainbow for a long time.  I think that Rainbow is going to make them very happy and I was really happy to be a part of their initiation.  Our Assembly is so excited to have them as our new sisters!  My favorite part was at the very end when we were all happy shoving cake in our mouths. And Dad Grist even visited and gave the Lambskin Apron lecture!  Good times!!!
