A Grand Year: Murder Mystery

A Grand Year: Murder Mystery

Between June 2019 and March 2020 we had many Grand Assembly Events and I think that during this time it is very important to remember all the good things that we got to do!

One of my favorite events in this term was the Murder Mystery that we hosted in Hampton in November. It was based on a Homecoming scenario, where the most popular boy in school is suddenly murdered. We spent the night as characters in the scenario trying to solve the mystery. We had a performance by a small group of girls who sang and danced the song “Cell Block Tango” from the musical Chicago.

We had a vote for Homecoming King and Queen, which went to Noah P. (State Master Councilor) and Kaitlyn R. (Grand Love). We voted for the best actress, which went to Sara W. (Grand Drill Leader), and best dressed, which went to Preston H.

We had a great night, and in the end it turns out it was the Homecoming Queen who committed the crime! It was super fun, and I cherish the memories we made together.

A Grand Year: Lake Anna

Between June 2019 and March 2020 we had many Grand Assembly Events and I think that during this time it is very important to remember all the good things that we got to do! The first event we had was our Lake Anna Beach Day in August. We had girls from all over the state attend, as well as visitors from DeMolay. We had a picnic, played Jenga, and had fun in the water! Over seventy people attended, and we had a great time getting to know each other better. It was a wonderful way to start our year and I cherish the memories we made!

A Grand Year: Hampton/Norfolk GV

Between June 2019 and March 2020 we had many Grand Assembly Events and I think that during this time it is very important to remember all the good things that we got to do!

The Hampton/Norfolk GV was so much fun! I was so excited to see what these assemblies had in store for their skits and they did not disappoint. I was walked around the room, taught about courage, and even made to dance with the wicked witch and her monkeys. Sara W and Jordan B presided over the GV as Worthy Advisors. I received lovely gifts from both assemblies and had a great time!

Unlikely Friendships are the Best!

Lessons From Over the Rainbow: Unlikely Friendships are the Best!

Even though the scarecrow, tin-man, and cowardly lion may have seemed strange and flawed at first, they always had Dorothy’s back- proving that good friends come in the unlikeliest places. It is an impossible thing to say – even to ourselves- how we come to know most of the people in our lives. But how they stay, how acquaintances become friends- that should be easy for us to figure out.  A wise man once said, “Associate with those who will make a better person of you, but more importantly, welcome those who you yourselves can improve”. When Dorothy first encountered her unique companions, they had little to offer her. Yet she still invited them to join her, and it turns out she really needed them in the end. We all tend to become like the people we spend the most time with, we pick up habits, attitudes, and mannerisms, so we should choose our friends wisely, and widely because life is too short to live without the experiences of friendship. Don’t let yourself miss out on possible friends because they are different. They could turn out to be your best and most loyal friends in the end.
