Lessons From Over the Rainbow: There Is No Place Like Home

Picture your home. The things, the location, all of it. What makes it so special to you? What is the difference between a house and a home? It is not the bed, or the walls, or even the land, it is the people. Your home doesn’t even have to be your house. Your home is wherever the people you love, and the people who love you are found. When Dorothy found herself away from home, and all alone, she realized that the best experiences in life mean nothing if you can’t share them with the people you love. There is no place like home. There is nowhere in the world as loving, or as frustrating, as exciting, or as boring, as crazy, or as peaceful because home is everything.

Lessons From Over the Rainbow: Never Give Up

Dorothy never stopped trying to get home, even when the witch sent her flying monkeys after her. The world can be a cruel place. Evil things do happen, and we need to be aware of that. However, we cannot let the fear caused by evil doings to stop us from trying to be good. Life is complicated, but we can handle it if we hold on to what is important and stay on the right path.

Stay true to yourself and stay on the yellow brick road. This is how you conquer obstacles, one foot in front of the other. Never stopping, and when the going gets tough, stick to the right path and you can overcome any obstacle that life throws at you.

A Grand Year: Murder Mystery

A Grand Year: Murder Mystery

Between June 2019 and March 2020 we had many Grand Assembly Events and I think that during this time it is very important to remember all the good things that we got to do!

One of my favorite events in this term was the Murder Mystery that we hosted in Hampton in November. It was based on a Homecoming scenario, where the most popular boy in school is suddenly murdered. We spent the night as characters in the scenario trying to solve the mystery. We had a performance by a small group of girls who sang and danced the song “Cell Block Tango” from the musical Chicago.

We had a vote for Homecoming King and Queen, which went to Noah P. (State Master Councilor) and Kaitlyn R. (Grand Love). We voted for the best actress, which went to Sara W. (Grand Drill Leader), and best dressed, which went to Preston H.

We had a great night, and in the end it turns out it was the Homecoming Queen who committed the crime! It was super fun, and I cherish the memories we made together.

A Grand Year: Lake Anna

Between June 2019 and March 2020 we had many Grand Assembly Events and I think that during this time it is very important to remember all the good things that we got to do! The first event we had was our Lake Anna Beach Day in August. We had girls from all over the state attend, as well as visitors from DeMolay. We had a picnic, played Jenga, and had fun in the water! Over seventy people attended, and we had a great time getting to know each other better. It was a wonderful way to start our year and I cherish the memories we made!
