The adopt a spot was on June 16^th.  The girls met up at the lodge around 11 am.  We had extra girls come, so we divided into two groups.  Some cleaned the road and others cleaned the lodge kitchen.  Those who heading to the road were: Sami, Aaliyah, Zoey, Batu, M’Balu and myself.  The adults were: my Nana and Dad Clancy.  It was really hot out and I don’t do that well in the heat!  Luckily, there wasn’t a lot of trash.  Sami and I along with my Nana went to the far side of the road.  Even though there wasn’t a lot of trash, we found, I guess you can say, “cool things”, like a pair of cutting wire tool.  We all made it to the end of the road at the same time.  We came together to take a picture under our sign.  We then headed back to the lodge, where the girls helped finished cleaning up the kitchen.  It was a nice day and a great way to spend time together with my Rainbow Sisters.

June 16, 2018 Lodge Clean-up

On June 16, I chaired the Lodge Clean-up event which was a way for us to thank the Masons for allowing us to hold our meetings and events at the lodge and for everything else they do for our assembly.  We met at the lodge at 11am and broke up into two groups.  One group with six girls headed outside to clean our Adopt-a-spot stretch of road and the rest of us stayed behind to get working on cleaning the lodge kitchen.  The girls working in the kitchen the entire time were:  Katie, Joella, Abigail and me.  The girls that came to help in the kitchen after doing the Adopt-a-spot were:  Zoey, Sami, M’Balu, Batu, Jazmyn, and Aaliyah with Mom Deborah.  Mom Jean noticed that the cabinet paper needed to be replaced so she and Mom Louisa went out and bought new foam liners and we cleaned and re-organized all of the shelves and drawers in the kitchen.  Mom Robin cleaned out the refrigerator and Dad Henry cleaned the stove.  Dad Clancy was cleaning out the storage cabinets in the back room and helped where ever he was needed.  After most of the work was done Dad Clancy ordered pizza for the girls who worked the event so we could have lunch.  Once we were done eating we did some more clean-up and then headed home at about 2pm.

Fun at the Sadie Hawkins Dance

A dance where the girls ask boys to dance?  Yes, that is a Sadie Hawkins Dance!  On Saturday, June 9, at 8:00, at Herndon Lodge, Bethel 52 held a dance and invited all the Rainbow Girls and Job’s Daughters. Girls from Ashburn Assembly and Manassas Assembly were there with guys from Herndon and Ashburn DeMolay. Mom P and mom Paula were the chaperone. The dance followed the Hern-burn DeMolay Installation that many of the girls attended. Katie, Sami, Vanessa, Emma, and Ella showed off their dance moves.  There were also slow dances. Vanessa and Emma had “special friends” that they had asked to the dance, so everyone was happy!

Founders Day Tribute

The founder of our beautiful organization that we are a part of is William Mark Sexson. His birthday is July 8, 1877.   He was born in Missouri, but moved many times.  At the age of 14 he began his ministry and soon after became an ordained minister when he was just 17 years old. 

He became a Master Mason in 1902.  Soon after he moved to Oklahoma where he continued to be an active member in his lodge.  In 1923 he was elected to serve as the Grand Master.  He also became very involved with the Scottish Rite and Eastern Star.    

During this time he decided an order for girls was needed.  He expressed the idea to the Worthy Matron.  She loved it and said that  “We would start it if we had someone write the ceremony of initiation.” Rev. Sexson accepted the challenge and wrote the ritual and gave it the name “Order of the Rainbow for Girls”.

He asked the officers of South McAlester Chapter No. 149, O.E.S., to exemplify the ceremony and furnished them with typewritten copies of the Ritual.  On April 6^th, 1922, the degrees were given for the first time to 171 girls in the auditorium of the Scottish Rite Temple in McAlester, Oklahoma.

Rev. Sexson formed the Supreme Body in June of 1922. He wrote the governing laws and was made the Supreme Recorder.  Later, he received the title of the Supreme Worthy Advisor Emeritus.

On December 20, 1953, Rev. Sexson died in a hospital in McAlester, OK. The funeral service was held at the church where he served as minister for many years and where the Ritual of our Order was written.  

There are two special days that we honor in our organization. The first is Founder’s Day, which is recognized on his birth date of July 8th.  The other is the Sunday closest to April 6^th,  which is  to recognize and celebrate our anniversary.  Fun fact….did you all know that on the day the assembly goes to church, no member of the assembly is excused unless sick or out of the area?!

This great man created the organization we are affiliated with today. He is the reason we are all sitting in this room together. He made our friendships possible and why we have memories to hold with us for a life time.
