Lodge Gardening

Posted in Blog on June 7th, 2020 by Christi Reed

On May 23rd, 2020, my family and I planted flowers at the lodge.  For this term, one of the events I was in charge of was lodge gardening.  Due to COVID-19 we were not able to perform the activity as a group.  So, my family and I volunteered to do it ourselves.  We took out a few dead plants and weeds and planted many beautiful flowers.  We had fun getting dirty and making the lodge look pretty. I hope the flowers turn out well!

A Grand Year: Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Posted in Blog on June 7th, 2020 by Christi Reed

Between June 2019 and March 2020 we had many Grand Assembly Events and I think that during this time it is very important to remember all the good things that we got to do! In October, Virginia Rainbow joined together in Old Town Manassas with an organization called Walk to End Alzheimers, where we walked 3 kilometers and raised funds to find a cure. We heard from guest speakers who spoke about living with Alzheimer’s, and afterwards we took pictures around old town. It was a very educational and fun day.

A Grand Year: Drive In Movie

Posted in Blog on June 7th, 2020 by Christi Reed

Between June 2019 and March 2020 we had many Grand Assembly Events and I think that during this time it is very important to remember all the good things that we got to do! The second event in our term was our Drive-In Movie. We set up shop at Manasseh Lodge, where we had a projector, giant movie screen, and concessions stand. We sold popcorn, got dogs, candy, and nachos. All profits went to our Grand Charity Give Kids the World Foundation. Girls from my home assembly volunteered to sell concessions, and they worked all throughout the movie.

We watched the Wizard of Oz in the overflow parking field. We had people sitting in the back of their trucks, setting up lawn chairs, and even sitting on blankets on the ground. It was a very fun night under the stars and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves!

Library Volunteer – 2/15/2020

On Saturday, February 15th, Manassas Assembly volunteered at the Haymarket Gainesville Community Library.  It was neat because we got a behind the scenes tour of the library and we also got to find out how everything works.  We worked on craft projects and punched out stars as well as made pirate hats for the next event.  There are so many opportunities to volunteer and I received a schedule so I can come back as many times as I want to get my service hours.  It was fun working with Samantha, Emily and Alyssa so when we finished, we went to Starbucks to extend our time together.
