A Grand Year: Making A Video

One of the happier sides of social distancing has been the virtual communication between rainbow jurisdictions! I had the chance to do a ”Virginia Rainbow Takeover” on the Grand Worthy Advisors Facebook page, to tell the girls from all over what it is we have done this year. I decided to make a YouTube video of me explaining everything- and then upload that to the page.

In this video, I decided I would try to be a little entertaining, so I did my makeup while explaining our term to everyone. I received a lot of messages about how to improve my makeup skills (I do not have any makeup skills) and about how cool our grand term sounded. It was great to talk to people from all over, and I am so glad I had the opportunity to do it!

Toys For Tots

A Grand Year: Toys-4-Tots

Between June 2019 and March 2020 we had many Grand Assembly Events and I think that during this time it is very important to remember all the good things that we got to do!

In December we went to a Toys-4-Tots facility in Richmond to help them sort toys that were to be delivered to families for Christmas. This event was coordinated by Allison, Grand Fidelity, who got in contact with the Toys-4-Tots coordinator and advertised to our girls. We had a lot of participation from the different assemblies, and we ended up sorting toys for around 3 hours. It was a great day where we had the opportunity to help out with a great organization.

Staying Strong

Lessons From Over the Rainbow: Staying Strong

Dorothy knew that giving the Wicked Witch her ruby slippers was a bad idea. The Witch tried to trick and torment her, but Dorothy never gave in. It would have been easy for her to hand over the shoes, give up, and let the witch win, but she never did. Dorothy stayed strong. She did not know the power her slippers held, but she knew deep down that giving them to the witch was wrong, so she made her stand and held on to her convictions.

We may not have ruby slippers, but we do have things of great value. Our self-respect, morals, and trustworthiness are worth more than all the emeralds in Oz. Just like Dorothy, we should hold on to those treasures and never let go.

You’ve always had the power within You

Lessons From Over the Rainbow: You’ve always had the power within You

One of the biggest criticisms of the Wizard of Oz is the end when Glinda tells Dorothy that she always had the power to get home. If it was so simple, why didn’t Glinda just tell Dorothy from the beginning?

If I told you right now that you were going to be the president of the United States, would you believe me? What if I said to you that you can climb Mt.Everest? Would you believe that?

You probably wouldn’t. The truth is, you could do both of those things, but you would have to work for it.  If you don’t learn things for yourself, it is not worth it. The reason Glinda didn’t tell Dorothy that her shoes would bring her home is because Dorothy had to learn how to believe in herself, and she could only do that through hard work, and a long journey. Just because you don’t see yourself doing great things right now, that doesn’t mean you are not able to. You are only at the beginning of your journey, you have amazing potential, you have the power within you, you just have to find the power for yourself.
